International Relief

Singapore is a peaceful and prosperous city-state where it is common to see kind Singaporeans donating generously whenever there is an international disaster. During donation drives, Tzu Chi volunteers station at various locations across Singapore to raise funds. Donors are often touched by the sincerity of the volunteers, who bow at a 90-degree angle with a donation box held in their hands, receiving every donation with their utmost gratitude. This heart-touching sight leaves a lasting impression and ignites the compassion in them.

International Relief is one of Tzu Chi’s “Eight Charitable Footprints”. Over the years, Tzu Chi’s footprints of Great Love have spread across major continents with the establishment of numerous Tzu Chi offices around the world. During crisis, these offices support Tzu Chi Taiwan in coordinating disaster relief efforts by soliciting donations and allocating resources and volunteers to neighbouring countries hit by disasters.

Tzu Chi’s International Relief Principles
Directness, Priority, Respect, Practicality, Gratitude, Timeliness

Tzu Chi’s disaster relief efforts include urgent relief work, as well as medium- and long-term programmes such as rebuilding of amenities. The spirit of Great Love with no boundaries is best exemplified when donors from different parts of the world trust that their donations, meant for international relief and channelled to Tzu Chi Taiwan for consolidation and safekeeping, will be properly used when the need arises.

In response to disasters across the world, Tzu Chi Singapore acts accordingly with the following:

  1. Apply for Public Charitable Fund-Raising licence with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.
  2. Crowdfund for international relief funds and provide updates of disaster-hit areas through Tzu Chi’s social media platform.
  3. Distribute and transport aids to affected regions.
  4. Open free clinics at affected regions.
  5. Conduct nationwide donation drive.
  6. Partner with entrepreneurs, religious and charitable organisations for fundraising.
  7. Conduct afternoon prayer sessions and gather blessings through vegetarianism promotion activities.

In line with stringent Singapore anti-scam laws, Tzu Chi practises complete transparency on the use of relief funds. More details can be found on Tzu Chi’s official website and social media platform.
