Someone asked, "How do we understand ourselves?"
The Master answered:
If one knows when he is hungry, that is self-awareness. If one knows when it is time to sleep, that is also considered self-awareness. If one knows that he needs to work upon waking up, that too, is considered self-awareness.
We should not waste valuable time on insignificant matters, and we should not over-think in a complex manner. Most importantly, we need to learn how to understand others. Do we deliberately pick on tasks that we enjoy doing and leave undesirable tasks to others? If we can put ourselves into the shoes of others and be considerate towards them, we would have a sense of self-awareness – that is “I am a considerate person”. If the sight of others often annoys us, we would also have a sense of self-awareness – that is “I am a narrow-minded, unaccommodating person”.
