Someone complained to Master Cheng Yen, "I have purposely nurtured my only son and not involved him in household chores. He was an excellent student and successful in his career, and he is now married with children. I never imagined that my daughter-in-law would delegate all the household duties to my son and even ask him to look after the children. When I saw this, I felt so much pain and dismay."
The Master replied:
Since you love your son so much, you should love the people he loves. If he is willing to do the housework and does it happily, you should be happy for him. You will not feel sorry for your son if you treat your daughter-in-law as your daughter and are happy for her for finding a good husband. Furthermore, your son is the one who wants to take over the household and childcare responsibilities. There is nothing to complain about as long as he is willing to do all of that and both of them can work together without conflict.
