What came first, the chicken, or the egg?

Someone asked, “What came first, the chicken, or the egg?”

The Master answered:

We don't usually talk about hens, but we talk about eggs, which are eaten before they hatch. And since the mind of the past cannot be attained, nor can the mind of the future be attained, it is best to talk only about the present. It is a waste of energy if we keep focusing on things of the past. Since no one can live the future in the present moment, it would be very distorted to keep seeking what might or might not happen without being adequately grounded in the present. It is useless to keep exploring these things with worldly wits and intellectual arguments.
