Only after tracking through rugged mountain roads can one reach the summit. Looking thus far, the view is one of vast and limitless expanse. As practising Buddhists, untold obstacles are inevitable along the path of cultivation. So, exercise vigilance, loving kindness and patience as one threads the path.
Ignorance is to be reduced while wisdom needs to grow. Our mind is like a land to be ruled, once chaos arises, good and evil will be at war, and turbulences will echo throughout our mind. Trounce the husky demons of the mind, guard against impropriety and stop devilment. Maintain vigilance and uphold purity and wholesomeness of our thought, speech and action.
Sentient beings have an ego-self, "I". I love, I want, I desire. When I cannot get it, I suffer; when I get it and lose it, I also suffer. Narrow-mindedness and obsessiveness inevitably bring trouble, annoyance, agony and anguish. Constantly and persistently magnify the ego self until it becomes as big as heaven and earth, where it merges and becomes one with all
When one governs one’s mind and keeps it wholesome and virtuous, the mind will be pristine and peaceful. However, if the “I” continues to shroud the mind, cumulate and breed, one’s virtue will be disrupted. As time drains away in our short lifetime, our wisdom life fades away along with it.
We need to listen and understand the Dharma and apply the benevolent teachings in our daily lives for the benefit of others. Using our bodies as the means, a day that is spent fruitfully is a day gained. A positive contribution made is good karma created, thus having less time for folly. As the mind is filled with good thoughts and practises towards kindness, evil thoughts cannot step foot in. Guard our minds wholeheartedly and let wisdom accumulate and blossom.
