Charitable Distribution Inspires Feelings of Compassion and Contentment

The first Saturday of every month is Tzu Chi Lumbini's Charity Day. Through this event, the charity team hopes to motivate more local volunteers to participate in Tzu Chi's home visit activities. They hope that this would allow participants to witness the suffering around them, know their blessings, and inspire compassion. In addition to sending love and distributing food for daily needs, care recipients are also encouraged to save a handful of rice daily and give back.

Saturday is the only weekly holiday in Nepal. However, on this day, instead of relaxing, local volunteers from Lumbini gathered early in the morning at Tzu Chi's office. Nearly 50 local and overseas volunteers came together to visit the underprivileged areas of Lumbini.

Bindrawadi's family has been in dire straits since she lost her husband. Tzu Chi provided her with a job as a bag threader to earn some money for her family, she has recently also become a participant in Tzu Chi's soap making course to learn a skill that will enable her to start a new life.

Tzu Chi’s care recipient, Bindrawadi Kahar : We learnt the skills, if we get the materials then we can make at home, and life will be happy.

Lumbini volunteer, Uma Kumari Mourya: I also feel good. After going to these houses, I came to know that there are people poorer than me. And after helping these people, I came to realise that we don't have any problem.

Seeing the suffering and knowing her blessings through charity visits, Uma appreciates what she has even more. Sujit, a stipend worker from the construction team, who has been involved in the construction of a new house for Bharachi Kurmi, also came to Bharachi's house today, and was comforted by the fact that she has a roof over her head.

Lumbini volunteer, Sujit Gole: I feel very happy after building this house. Because, even helping to build this kind of house is a big thing. A house is very important for eating and sleeping. Tzu chi is already giving food but building a good house also makes me feel good.

It is a blessing to be able to give, the Tzu Chi care recipients do not forget to save a handful of rice a day even when they are receiving relief, they learn to give even in hard times, and they hope that they too can change from being someone who receives to a blessed person who gives.
