As his life fades, he holds on to one last wish

In the face of impermanence, his final wish was simple yet profound, and that is to become a disciple of Master Cheng Yen. With the companionship of Tzu Chi volunteers, that wish was lovingly fulfilled.

Tzu Chi volunteer Tan Jiau Hok was diagnosed with terminal cancer late last year. He had originally been scheduled to receive his certification this year, a milestone that would have allowed him to return to Taiwan and meet the Master Cheng Yen, something he had long held close to his heart. But when his condition suddenly worsened and he could no longer attend the certification ceremony, the staff and volunteers who had been caring for him were determined to help him fulfil this final aspiration. With the Master’s compassionate approval, and coinciding with the visit of Dharma masters from Jing Si Abode to Singapore, a special certification ceremony was arranged. Just ten days after completing this long-awaited rite, he passed away peacefully.
