Lumbini's First Committee Volunteer Training Grooms Six Local Volunteer
Tzu Chi in Lumbini held two sessions of volunteer training on 26 August 2023, the first since its inception. The training was attended by six attendees who have been involved in Tzu Chi activities for more than one year. One of the trainees was a medical doctor, while the rest were foundation staff, entrepreneurs and others. The six new aspiring volunteers were like precious jewels, warmly welcomed and supported by everyone. In the afternoon, the third volunteer training was held at Lumbini Buddhist University with 68 participants.
Nepal volunteer, Tulsi: When I entered this room, I was very surprised because everybody started to clap their hands (and sang) “truly happy to see you”. This is the first time (having) ice-cream with biscuit (this way), very nice.
A can of ice cream surprised the volunteers and made them smile. This was to continue the love of Jing Si Abode and to make everyone feel homely.
Tzu Chi is stepping into (its) 58th year, Master (Cheng Yen) started with charity helping the needy.
The first training session for trainee committee volunteers in Lumbini, Nepal, was attended by six volunteers. Dr Nirdesh was especially surprised to learn that Master Cheng Yen founded Tzu Chi at the age of 29.
Nepal volunteer, Nirdesh: Today is the first time in Nepal training volunteer training, When Tzu Chi foundation started, Master (Cheng Yen) was only 29 years old. It suddenly grasp my attention. When I first found Tzu Chi or when Tzu Chi found me, I was 29. And Buddha left his palace when he was 29. Coincidentally, I think there’s something, some destiny with this number 29.
In the afternoon of the same day, the third training session for grey shirt volunteers was also held, where a lesson on "eco living" struck a chord with many volunteers.
Nepal volunteer, Siddhartha: About mother earth pollution like how climate change is happening. After the session, we had a break for some food, there was a fruit tea in front of me, with a straw. I did not drink the fruit tea, I just drank water. I think that was the effect I got from the class today.
Nepal volunteer, Supriya: She taught us so many various ways on how we can save earth, like we can avoid plastic materials and promote vegetarian food. I used to be very fond of non-vegetarian food, but now it doesn't attract me. I'm also practicing the habit of not taking non-vegetarian food.
The rich curriculum exposed the participants to a different worldview, while a lively group recreation song drove the local volunteers and the oversea team to reveal their purest and most joyful childlike innocence.
